复旦大学发育生物学研究所

       发育生物学研究所是在谈家桢先生的倡导和国家、上海市及学校支持下,由美国休斯医学研究院研究成员、耶鲁大学终身教授许田博士,休斯医学研究院研究员、科罗拉多大学终身教授韩珉博士,杜克大学终身教授庄原博士与国内年轻学者于2002年共同创建的,现有高级职称研究人员10人,其他员工100余人。发育生物学研究所秉承“通过前沿研究培养一流创新人才”的宗旨,利用小鼠等模式生物进行发育和遗传、疾病模型和机理研究,并建立了一套与国际接轨的人才培养体制。 

       研究所成立以来承担973、863、国家自然科学基金和上海市等项目50余项,首创了哺乳动物PB转座子系统,培育了规模世界领先、具有5000多种突变体的基因突变小鼠库,围绕器官发育和代谢、肿瘤、免疫等疾病过程开展多项研究,有关成果在《Cell》、《Neuron》、《Immunity》、《Developmental Cell》、《PNAS》、《Development》、《JBC》等著名杂志发表,获得中国高等学校十大科技进展和上海市自然科学一等奖等荣誉。包括美国科学院院长、遗传学会会长、休斯医学研究院首席科学家、6位诺贝尔奖得主在内的百余位国际一流学者曾专程来访。研究所成员多次应邀在国际遗传学大会、美国细胞生物学会、遗传学会、肾脏病学会、亚洲突变小鼠资源联合会年会等国际会议作学术报告,并担任《Cell》等8家学术杂志编委。

       研究所引进开设了遗传分析、肿瘤生物学、发育生物学、科学道德和伦理等课程,通过频繁的国际国内学术交流、每周例会和书报讨论等活动开阔学生视野,激发学生对科学的兴趣。研究所要求导师根据科研需要和学生的具体情况为其安排独立课题,方便进行完整的科研训练。研究所培养了一支勇于创新、勤于探索的研究生队伍,获得了中国青少年科技创新奖、全国和上海优秀博士论文、谈家桢生命科学九源特等奖学金等各种荣誉。

Institute of Developmental Biology and Molecular Medicine

       The Institute of Developmental Biology and Molecular Medicine (IDM) was established in June 2001, as proposed by the late Professor Jiazhen Tan (CC Tan) and with strong support from the Fudan University administration. The institute is co-directed by Professor Tian Xu of Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Yale University and Professor Min Han of Howard Hughes Medical Institute and University of Colorado at Boulder. The Shanghai Fudan Model Organism Center was established in IDM to support both basic and applied research on model animals.

       There are four full-time professors and two full-time associate professors in IDM, all of whom have oversea research experiences. IDM offers several graduate level courses including Genetic Analysis, Developmental Biology, and the Bioethics. Up to date, about 100 renowned international scientists, including 6 Nobel Laureates and more than 10 members of the United States National Academy of Science, have given lectures at or visited IDM.

       The mission of IDM is to conduct internationally competitive research on developmental biology, molecular mechanism of human diseases in mice and other model organisms. IDM faculty has developed the mammalian piggyBac system for efficient transgenesis and mutagenesis, and generated a world-class resource of more than 5,000 mutant mice with this technique. IDM offers competitive training program for both graduate and post-graduate levels.
