Biography:
Dr. Gan received his B.S. and M.S. from Fudan University in China. In 2006, he obtained Ph.D. from Cornell University through the Comparative Biomedical Science program. Then he conducted his postdoc training with Dr. Ron DePinho, a world leading scientist in cancer genetics and biology, at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School. At the end of 2011, he joined the MD Anderson Cancer Center, the top two cancer center in the United States in the last decade, as a tenure track Assistant Professor. Since then, he has led a vigorous research group that focuses on studying the roles of energy sensing and metabolism in cancer and stem cells. Even at this relatively early independent career stage, Dr. Gan has already served as the sole PI of more than 10 grants, including 2 R01s from National Institute of Health (NIH), and has published more than 30 papers in top journals, including Nature and Cancer Cell. He is the recipient of many awards, including Kimmel Scholar Award and Ellison Medical Foundation New Scholar Award, and has served in various review panels, including NIH study section.
